House Bill 159, the Animal Cruelty Bill sponsored by Rep. Al Park, may be heard in the Senate Conservation Committee this week. Since HB159 is an extremely important bill that will make a real difference for animals if passed, we are asking advocates to make it a priority to contact committee members early this week, if you live in their districts.
If your senator is not on this committee, your opportunity to ask that he or she support HB159 would be when, or if, the bill reaches a Senate floor vote. We will keep you posted on HB159's progress.

How to Reach Your Legislators
If you aren't sure how to reach your legislators, or if you are unsure who they are, you can still make important impacts for animals in this legislative session by finding out who represents you, and by getting on the phone to their offices.
Contacting a legislator's office is simple. Placing a call to urge support for House Bill 159, for example, can be quick and yet be part of lasting change for animals. All you need to say to legislative staffers for Senate Conservation Committee members on the phone is something like "I am (NAME) and I live in Senator (NAME)'s district. I am calling to request that (HE/SHE) vote in favor of House Bill 159, the Animal Cruelty Bill."
And just like that, you've spoken out on behalf of thousands of New Mexico animals that are facing preventable suffering today.
HB159 has already been addressed in the House.
